Tell us about your yourself

I’m Deborah co-owner of the SIMPLYGorgeous salon which I run with my mother and we’ve been open for over 15 years now.

What was your journey into hairdressing?

My role within our salon mainly focuses on the PR, marketing and overall direction for the business but I do step in to do hair when needed or requested from clients - mostly afro and curly cuts, curl enhancements - anything that revolves around the natural texture of our hair as these are my favourite to do.I’ve worked in salons ever since I went to university and my career within PR has also had a huge proportion of it revolve around working with some of the UK’s leading hair salons and stylists so I’ve been really able to naturally develop a love and understanding of hair, particularly afro hair.

What would you say are the 3 most common problems women come to you with regarding their hair?

In terms of problems we most commonly see dryness, hair loss scalp issues. For the latter two we’d also suggest you consult as trichologist who would be able to professionally diagnose what the conditions are and the causes. And then we can adapt your service to what you have been advised.

What is your top solution for one of those problems?

What sets your service apart from the others that cater to similar clientele?

I think it’s the atmosphere that we create for our clients. We often get a lot of great feedback about our space and the vibe it has. Also that we really try to impart in our clients what they need to be doing overall when it comes to their hair. Our service is not just focused on your needs whilst your in our chair.

What hair product or accessory can you absolutely not live without?

Fingers for detangling and working product through hair - they are the best tools you will ever have.

In terms of product a personal favourite that our clients also love is the Afrocenchix Sheen Moisturising Spray and The Afro Hair & Skin Co Bloom Hair Oil.
